Ditto Fabulous

So this is a little late to debate, but reading some other blogs that sound off on this made me want to post it here. Beth Ditto, the lead singer of Gossip (and who we just interviewed for UR), recently posed nude on the cover of NME. Due to the fact that she is a plus sized chick, is her posing nude empowering or is it still objectifying?

Perhaps it is still technically objectifying of women, but I also think it is refreshing and empowering since she does represent a body type that in our society doesn't get viewed of as "sexy" - but should! What makes someone sexy is their confidence and how they carry themselves. Beth Ditto would be sexy no matter what her dress size! I think it is a very daring cover since it does go against the supermodel beauty standard the media tends to push down people's throats and I am glad the people at NME ran it. Your thoughts?

Also, in our June UR article, Beth Ditto discussed our obsession with weight as being a "distraction", which I thought was the best way to describe the issue - not good or bad or stupid, but distracting - a waste of time and energy that should be devoted to more productive endeavors. I love this woman. - Chess
