Hello Gala
My (admittedly little) knowledge of the Beastie Boys has split the trajectory of their career into two: the young, party-hardy rappers of the '80s which can be heard in such songs as "Girls" and "Fight for Your Right" and the conscientious, older-but-wiser, entertainers of the '90s who apologized for the sexist lyrics of their earlier songs and brought attention to the 'Free Tibet' movement. The gala event the Boys have planned here in Chicago might fall somewhere in between. On September 26 at the Riviera Theater (4746 N. Racine), the Beastie Boys will perform a set composed largely of instrumentals and a smattering of vocal performances. The gala will be more intimate and exclusive than a large concert performance but that doesn't necessarily mean it will be stuffy ("These shows are for people that are into our weird stuff," the band notes, "so if you want to get weird together, this is your call.").
Dress to impress and mark your calendar for September 26, 8:00 p.m., to join the band and Mixmaster Mike for a night promising to be full of surprises.
[Edit: You have to be in formal wear to attend this event.]
