British Sea Power @ Empty Bottle tonight
The four lads from British Sea Power remember what it was that made them first fall in love with rock music. So much, in fact, they decided to make their third full-length, Do You Like Rock Music?, an homage of sorts to the genre. The album, which was recorded with three different producers in a handful of different locations (Canada and the Czech Republic, to name a few), is perhaps the uber-witty act's most obviously inspired material. "It seems like people really expect us to come out with something clever, but we don't always like to do what's expected," frontman Scott Wilkinson, aka Yan, says from the road. And they fully admit they're not reinventing the wheel this time around. "We're not doing something completely new, we're a continuation of something else, but redefining it somewhat and trying to improve it a little bit. This album is a way of saying that rock music has to do with a feeling you get from listening to certain kinds of music." Chicagoans will get a chance to see what kind of feeling they'll get from hearing this anthemic band's music in a perfect rock 'n' roll setting: the intimate confines of the Empty Bottle. BSP plays two shows there tonight with local favorites the 1900s: 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. Tickets ($13) are still available for both performances. - Jeremy Schnitker
